Campgrounds Near Buffalo, Minnesota

Buffalo, Minnesota is located in the south-central part of the state, in Wright County. The city is surrounded by numerous lakes, including Buffalo Lake to the south and Lake Pulaski to the north. Fishing and boating are popular pastimes, but the city also operates 19 parks, which have numerous hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails, as well as boat launches and fishing piers. Campers will find many wooded campsites in the surrounding area.

Baker Park Reserve Campground

Baker Park Reserve Campground is on Lake Independence and is 10 miles from Buffalo. Two smaller lakes, Half Moon and Spurzem, are also within the park's boundaries. There are 204 large, wooded campsites offering water, a picnic table and a fire ring. The campground has 98 sites with electric and water. There is also a group camping area. The campground features showers, restrooms, a picnic area, a swimming beach and a playground. Pets are welcome. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike or go cross-country skiing or biking. The park rents fishing boats, canoes and kayaks.

Lake Maria State Park

Lake Maria State Park is approximately 10 miles north of Buffalo, on the shores of Lake Maria. The heavily-forested park offers 17 backpacking campsites, requiring a mile hike to pitch your tent. There is a group camping area as well. The park offers vault toilets and a restroom near the park office. The park has a picnic area and a fishing pier and hikers will enjoy 16 miles of trails. There is also a boat launch and 14 miles of cross-country skiing trails.

River Terrace Park

Approximately 11 miles north of Buffalo is River Terrace Park. The campground is located in a wooded setting on 40 acres along the shores of the Mississippi River, with deer a common sight. Some of the campsites are along the river, with 13 designated for tents and offering a picnic table, a fire ring and a central water location. There are 18 full hookup sites for RVs. The park has a bathhouse, a laundry facility, a general store and a dump station. Pets are accepted. Anglers can use the boat ramp into the Mississippi, as well as fish the shoreline. Bikes are available for rent at the store.
