The Best Binoculars for Birding

The Best Binoculars for Birding
Binoculars are essential for the birdwatcher. Birding is often thought of as a passive activity, but it requires quite a bit of active engagement as the birdwatcher strives to connect both auditory and visual contact. It can be done with the naked eye, but is best aided with the right equipment. Like any other activity, birdwatchers seek the best tools for the job. Here are a few binoculars that any birdwatcher could appreciate.

Zeiss 8x42 FL T

Perhaps the ultimate birding binoculars, the Zeiss 8x42 FL T combines an exceptional image with a lightweight body and unparalleled comfort. Of course, such quality comes with a high price. The 8x42 FL T binoculars cost a whopping $1,500.

Nikon Action Extreme

An excellent pair of binoculars for around $200, the Nikon Action Extreme presents a durable package. Waterproof and fog-proof, with rubberized grips, the Action Extreme is good for those who hit rough terrain in pursuit of a bird. The image quality is exceptional for the price, with a wide field of vision. However, those interested in getting in close may be disappointed with the 7x magnification power.

Leica 8x32 BA

Exceptional Leica lens technology is available here for under $1,000. The Leica 8x32 BA may still be a little steep, but they are an exceptional value. Lightweight and portable, the Leica 8x32 doesn't skimp on quality, with a wide field of vision and the ability to focus on objects only 6 feet away. While Leica glass transmits light well, providing clear, bright images, the 8x32 BA produces slightly dimmer images than Leica's more expensive models.

Eagle Optics 7x32 Denali

The Eagle Optics Denali ($99) has excellent clarity and brightness. You lose out most in field of view, which is relatively narrow with the Denali. Plus, they are a little bulky, weighing in at 22 ounces.
