Campgrounds Near Silver Lake, California

Silver Lake is located within the Mono Lake Ranger District of the Inyo National Forest, which encompasses 2 million acres of land. The campgrounds near Silver Lake are part of the June Lake Loop group of campgrounds. While lacking in amenities, they place travelers within a very short drive of the collection of lakes that sit between the national forest and Yosemite National Park, an area that offers hiking, fishing, and a host of other outdoor activities.

Silver Lake Campground

Silver Lake Campground offers 63 back-in sites at an elevation of 7,200 feet. This campground includes potable water, and water spigots and flush toilets are located throughout. There is a fee for camping and reservations are required, and Silver Lake allows guests up to a two-week stay. This site is within bear territory and travelers are warned against feeding the animals. The campground sits along Rush Creek and is within walking distance of Rush Creek Trailhead, ideal for visitors who enjoy hiking, and stream and lake fishing are easily accessible. Silver Lake Resort offers a general store and boat rentals serving the north shore area of Silver Lake.

Aerie Crag Campground

At an elevation of 7,200 feet, Aerie Crag Campground is limited to RV use and accommodates overflow traffic. The campground offers only 10 sites and restrooms, but no potable water. There is a fee to camp at this location, but reservations are not required. A three-day limit is placed on stays at these sites. Aerie Crag is half a mile south of Grant Lake, where visitors can try wakeboarding and water skiing. Grant Lake Marina serves boaters on the lake, providing boat rentals, fuel for sale, shower facilities and a swimming area. Walker Lake Trailhead is found at the north end of Grant Lake Dam, 5.5 miles north of the campground.

Reversed Creek Campground

Reversed Creek Campground has 17 sites to offer and water is available within the campground. Camping here does involve a fee, but reservations are not needed. A two-week limit is placed on stays. The campground sits at an elevation of 7,600 feet. Bears are common to the area and campers should take precautions with provisions and trash. Big Rock Lake has boats for rent on June Lake, just over two miles north of the campground. June Lake Marina has boats and dock slips for rent during the summer months.
