Kapaa is a community along the eastern coast of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands. Overlooking the town is Nounou Mountain, a hiker-friendly ridge known as the Sleeping Giant, as it resembled a mythic giant taking a very long nap to ancient islanders. Several trails run up and around the mountain, offering panoramic vistas, access to waterfalls and the slim chance of waking up the giant. After a day on Nounou, consider one of Kapaa's restaurants to satisfy your gigantic appetite.

Bubba Burgers

With three locations on Kauai, Bubba Burgers says its burgers are always juicy but never greasy. Bubba burgers are made from Kauai beef, served on a toasted bun with the usual suspects including mustard, ketchup, relish and diced onions. Go large with the half-pound Big Bubba, get messy biting into the chili-smothered Slopper or stay local with the teriyaki burger. The menu offers sides like fries, onion rings and chili, plus chicken sandwiches, corn dogs and Caesar salads.

Papaya's Natural Foods & Cafe

Papaya's Natural Foods & Cafe is the place to go for a healthy meal. The menu includes organic salads, vegan soup and gluten-free muffins, not to mention an array of prepared salads, sandwiches and wraps. If you want something a little hotter, try the made-to-order fish tacos and vegetarian taro burgers. On the liquid front, the cafe prides itself on its pure water, fair-trade coffee, wheatgrass juice and fruit-laden smoothies.

Tropical Taco

Tropical Taco used to be a movable feast. Like many taco joints in the Hawaiian Islands, this restaurant started as a truck serving fish tacos on the side of the road. Now located in an actual building but styled to remind you of its mobile origins, Tropical Taco serves island-style Mexican fare like tostadas, burritos, quesadillas and, of course, tacos.
