Summer Activities for Children in Dallas, Georgia

The City of Dallas is located in Paulding County in Georgia. Many young families live in the area and the city has been making a great deal of progress in maintaining and expanding parks and activities for children and young teenagers. Dallas is also located a short drive away from many nature preserves and historic landmarks.

Day Camp

The City of Dallas is starting a day camp for children and young teens in 2010. The camp will run from early June through the end of July. For children ages five through 12, day activities will include arts and crafts, various outdoor sports, field trips and time in the newly remodeled outdoor pool. Kids ages 13 and 14 can participate in a junior lifeguard program. Daily drop-off will also be available for an additional fee. Registration begins in mid-March and will run through May 1.

Coleman Camp Park

Coleman Camp Park is a great place to spend a weekend afternoon with kids. There are pavilions, walking trails, grills and picnic tables. It is conveniently located half-way between the Dallas Post Office and Downtown Dallas. Reservations aren't required for use of any of the facilities. Grills and picnic tables are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Sara Babb Park


Sara Babb Park is a popular summer destination that has recently undergone some major renovations. A new indoor pavilion with 15 tables, a full kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and ice machine is available for rent and is a great place for planning children's parties and family gatherings. There is also an outdoor pavilion and outdoors grills. The park also has lots of accommodations for sports enthusiasts: there are four lighted tennis courts, two baseball/softball courts, a swimming pool and playground.

Pickett's Mill Battlefield Historic Site

Pickett's Mill is a preserved Civil War battlefield. Open Thursday through Sunday, the preserve is an education and fun excursion for those with kids. In addition to the historical site, the site has four miles of hiking trails set inside 765 acres of preserved forest. The visitor center has a film and artifacts archive and an exhibit center. Picnic tables are available.
