Hotels in Andersonville, Georgia

One of the most important Civil War monuments, Andersonville was not the site of a battle, but the site of a notorious Confederate prison where nearly 13,000 Union prisoners died of starvation and disease. Standing there now is the Andersonville National Historic Site, which features the Andersonville National Cemetery and the National Prisoner of War Museum. Though the actual town of Andersonville is right next to the Historic Site, it only has 331 residents, so there are not Andersonville hotels. The nearest hotels are located in the nearby town of Americus.

Windsor Hotel ‎

Historic downtown Americus can be experience quite well from the historic 1892 Windsor Hotel. Occupying most of a city block, this 100 room Victorian building features a three-story tall atrium, as well as many towers and balconies. Their presidential suite is truly presidential, having hosted fictional president Martin Sheen and real president Jimmy Carter.

Al Capone stayed in the bridal suite, and after a 5.8 million dollar restoration, the Windsor provides modern comforts alongside its classic features. There's Southern cuisine in Amelia's Restaurant, and you can enjoy music and cocktails at Floyd's Pub and a treatment at the Windsor Spa.

Americus Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast ‎

If 1892 isn't far back enough in time, then how about 1847? That's when the Americus Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast was built. Set right next to Rees Park in a quiet residential neighborhood, the Americus Garden Inn makes it easy to imagine the Georgia of the past.

The hotel offers fresh baked breads, muffins and chocolate chip cookies, as well as live piano music in the parlor. There's a swing in the gazebo and rocking chairs on the veranda, and the stores and restaurants of downtown are less than a mile away.

Before you go off to explore Andersonville, you can have a full three course breakfast, and there are modern amenities like wireless Internet access. But perhaps more important than any of this, the Americus Garden Inn won Best Tasting Pecan Pie in the 2007 Georgia Pecan Festival.

Of course, maybe you're experiencing all the past you need to at the Andersonville National Historic Site. If you'd rather stay in a new hotel, there's the Holiday Inn Express Americus.

This hotel offers free wireless Internet access, as well as refrigerators in the guest rooms. You can start your day with the complimentary Express Start Breakfast. Then after a day of sightseeing, you can work out in the hotel's fitness center. The lobby's coffee and freshly baked cookies are available 24 hours, and there's plenty of RV parking.
