Canton, Georgia, is about 50 miles south of Atlanta, and near Allatoona Lake, which is a Corps of Engineers lake. At the lake, there are several campgrounds run by the Corps, many fishing and water sports opportunities, as well as trails and wilderness to explore. Nearby is the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, Indian mounds and the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield.

Sweetwater Creek Campground

Victoria Campground is another Corps of Engineers campground, and is designed to have as many lakefront campsites as possible. There are 72 campsites, and all have electric and water hookups. Some are considered "premium" because of their location on the water, but most of the sites are within close distance to the lake. The campground has a swimming area and a beach, as well as a playground. Fishing is allowed from the bank whether you have a license or not.
