Situated in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains, Boone, North Carolina is a popular destination for the outdoor enthusiast. Thanks to its proximity to Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain, the area offers a variety of recreational activities, from fishing and hiking to bird watching and golf. Seasonal activities include skiing, whitewater rafting and more. Boone is less than 30 miles from Watauga Lake in Tennessee, so visitors can include boating and swimming on the itinerary as well. There are a number of reasonably priced hotels for the budget-conscious traveler in Boone and the surrounding areas. Price categories are as of early 2010.
