North Stamford is a large neighborhood north of the Merritt Parkway in Stamford, Connecticut. It is less densely developed than most of Stamford and is one of the wealthiest areas in the United States. Located in North Stamford are the Bartlett Arboretum and the Stamford Historical Society headquarters and museum. Also in the neighborhood are the Stamford Museum and Nature Center (a 118-acre facility) and Buttonwood Manor, a Colonial-style house on an estate of 8 acres originally built in 1809. The area around Long Old Ridge Road has a number of areas for hiking, horseback riding and for simply appreciating nature. After exploring, there are plenty of places to get something to eat in the area.

Long Ridge Tavern

Located four miles north of the Merritt Parkway in one of Connecticut's most picturesque and historic villages, Long Ridge Tavern has just recently undergone an extensive renovation. There are four distinct dining areas: the Palmer room (named after the original owner) which can seat 75; the 80-seater main dining room with a fieldstone fireplace and antique bar; the Hunt room for 40; and the Nutmeg room for even smaller groups. Their innovative dishes change seasonally but all-time favorites include their roasted half duck, rack of lamb, fillet mignon and New York sirloin steak. This place is open for lunch and dinner everyday, with a brunch on Sundays.

Lakeside Diner

An old classic diner right off the Merritt Turnpike, the Lakeside Diner is a small place that offers good, cheap breakfasts and brunch. It has wall-to-wall windows that allow a nice view of the lake where ducks, swans and geese can often be seen. The lakeside special in the menu (home fries, two eggs, with bacon, ham, sausage and French toast) is touted as having the best value for money (at a price of $5 as of 2009). It also offers 8-inch wide pancakes and delicious donuts. Some other items include the garden omelet, breakfast burrito, egg salad sandwich, muffins, and the grilled chicken club sandwich with bacon, lettuce and tomato.
