Sonora is a small town on I-10 in the Texas Hill Country. Sonora has gained a reputation as a "speed-trap" capitol, as there are many speed-traps in the region (RV travelers slow down!) There are hiking trails, lakes to fish (crappie, bluegill and bass being the predominate species,) and many rural roads for bicycle touring and training. Underground adventures can be had at the Sonora Caverns. The area is very sparsely populated; there are no RV campgrounds in Sonora, but there are several in San Angelo, to the north on state road 277.

San Angelo KOA

The San Angelo KOA has sites to accommodate RVs to 70 feet. Hookups include 30- or 50-amp electric, water, and sewer. Cable TV connections are available for an extra charge. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the campground. Pets are allowed if leashed, and members of AAA or Good Sam travel clubs receive discounted stays. Guests may use the bathrooms, showers and pool. The Sonora Caverns are within 30 minute's drive. Naturalist-led hikes into the caves and caverns are available at the Sonora Caverns.

Spring Creek Marina and RV Park

The Spring Creek Marina and RV Park is on the 1600-acre Lake Nasworthy, so you can fish, canoe, kayak and swim from the campground. There are boat launches, ramps and rentals at the marina. RVs of most sizes can be accommodated at Spring Creek. Site connections include 30- or 50-amp electric, water, sewer, free cable TV and Wi-Fi. Pets are welcome. Bathrooms and showers, laundry facilities, a dump station, and barbecues are available for guest use. Road bicyclists can take advantage of the rural roads of the Texas Hill Country and tour, train and explore on two wheels.

San Angelo State Park

Visitors to the Sonora and Hill Country region can stay at the San Angelo State Park. Within the park are numerous multi-use trails (suitable for hiking, mountain biking and equestrian use.) The campground is on the O. C. Fisher Reservoir, and has boat ramps, affording opportunities for boating and fishing for bass, crappie, and bluegill. RV sites can handle small to mid-size rigs, and have water and 30-amp electric hookups. There is a dump station, and bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and barbecue grills are on the premises for guest use. Pets are allowed but must remain leashed at all times. Pets are not to be left unattended or left in parked vehicles.
