Campgrounds in Russell, Minnesota

Russell, Minnesota, is located 164 miles west of Minneapolis in Lyon County. The area's many lakes and streams provide ample opportunities for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Cycling and hiking is available on miles of trails.

Camden State Park

Camden State Park offers 87 sites spread out over the upper and lower campground. The upper campground closes during winter. There is a 50-foot limit for all drive-in sites, and pull-through sites have a limit of 60 feet. Electrical service is also available at select sites. Showers, flush toilets and a dump station are available at the campground, and vault toilets are available throughout the park. Fishing for brown trout is popular in the Redwood River, and bass and bluegill populate Brawner Lake. There are also 16 miles of hiking trails and 4 miles of mountain bike trails.

Hole-in-the-Mountain County Park

Hole-in-the-Mountain County Park is located west of Russell, near Lake Benton. Named after a pass through the Buffalo Ridge, Hole-in-the-Mountain features 50 campsites for tents, trailers or RVs. All sites feature electricity, picnic tables and fire rings. In addition some sites have water hookups. Shower and bathroom facilities are available on site. Hiking is available on 5 miles of trails, and canoeing and kayaking are popular on Lake Benton.

Lake Shetek State Park

Lake Shetek State Park contains the largest lake in southwestern Minnesota, Lake Shetek, which forms the headwaters of the Des Moines River. The 1,108-acre park features 97 campsites, 66 of which feature electrical hookups. In addition there are eight "cart-in" sites that do not have direct vehicle access. One cabin also is available for rent that sleeps up to five. Showers, flush toilets and a dump station is available in the main campground. In addition there is a wilderness group camp, which features hand pump water and vault toilets. There is vehicle access, but this is a tent-only camp. There are 14 miles of hiking trails and 6 miles of paved bike trails. A swimming beach and fishing pier also are available.
