Sumter County sits on the Flint River and is intersected by 10 Georgia state highways in the busy southwestern portion of the state. The county is home to Lake Blackshear and a variety of recreational and cultural attractions, including Rembert Rafting Creek, Dillon Park Track next to the National Armory, Sumter Little Theater and Sumter Opera House. The largest and most-visited city in Sumter County is Americus. Its hotels offer quick access to the area's surrounding cities and to downtown entertainment and dining.

Windsor Hotel

The Windsor Hotel in Americus, Georgia, is situated on the west side of that city's downtown area. The hotel is just off of U.S. 280 and just south of the dining and shopping opportunities of the Wheatley Plaza Shopping Center. The hotel was first built in 1892 and features a classic Victoria design with a variety of decorative towers and balconies. Al Capone and Jimmy Carter both have stayed at the hotel, which today features 53 rooms over five floors. Located just northeast of Sumter County, the New Perry Hotel in Perry, Georgia, is a landmark in the city and was built in 1925. The hotel features a flower garden courtyard, an on-site garden-view restaurant specializing in Southern dishes and on-site Tavery bar with a full wine menu.
