Campgrounds Near Ft. Custer, Michigan
Fort Custer is a 3,000-acre recreation area in central lower Michigan between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. Visitors will find several campgrounds that are convenient to outdoor recreation opportunities, including fishing, hunting, multi-use trails and 20 miles of mountain bike trails that are rated easy to difficult.

Fort Custer Campground

Fort Custer Campground, which is within Fort Custer Recreation Area, offers 219 modern campsites that include electric, a picnic table and a fire ring. The campground features modern restrooms with private showers, a central water source and a sanitation station. The recreation area has a playground, a swimming beach, a boat launch and several fishing access points. Fort Custer campground also is close to the hiking and mountain bike trails.

Shady Bend Campground

Shady Bend Campground is a mile north of the Fort Custer Recreation Area and has more than 3,000 feet of Kalamazoo River frontage. The campground offers large grass sites with concrete patios that include partial hookups, picnic tables and fire rings. Amenities include modern restrooms with private showers, a laundry facility, a dump station and a camp store that has food, fishing bait and firewood. Guests have access to canoe, tube and kayak rentals. There are also several good fishing spots in the park where guests can catch bass, bluegill and trout.

Battle Creek, Michigan Campground

Battle Creek, Michigan Campground, formerly Sunshine Garden, is a family campground that is 6 miles northeast of Fort Custer Recreation Area. It offers a variety of campsites that include full and partial hookups. There are also rustic tent sites. All sites include a picnic table and fire ring as well as access to modern restrooms with private showers. Amenities include a clubhouse with an indoor pool, two TV lounges, a game room and recreational activities such as tennis, badminton and volleyball. The campground has both a swimming pond and a fishing pond for guests. There are also several short walking trails in the campground that run throughout the forest.
