Campgrounds Near Bessemer, Michigan
Bessemer is a small rural community located in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Campers will find several campgrounds in the surrounding area that give access to the area's recreational activities that include hiking in the Porcupine Mountains and fishing for salmon and whitefish in Lake Superior.

Black River Harbor Campground

Black River Harbor Campground is located 13 miles north of downtown Bessemer on the Black river Harbor of Lake Superior. It offers 40 campsites that include a paved pad, picnic table and fire ring. Facility amenities include two modern restroom facilities, a dump station and central water filling station as well as a picnic pavilion and playground. Guests will find several short hiking trails accessible from the campground that lead to waterfalls in the park. There is a boat ramp available in the park for guests to use for free to access Lake Superior and quality fishing for salmon, trout and whitefish.

Lake Gogebic State Park

Lake Gogebic State Park is located 28 miles east of Bessemer on the west shore of Lake Gogebic. It offers 127 campsites with 105 having electric hookups and 22 being rustic. All campsites have a picnic table, fire ring and access to modern restrooms along with a picnic shelter and playground. The park is 360 acres and has a 2-mile hiking trail that runs in the forest behind the campground. There is also a large beachfront that has a swimming area and several fishing access points. A boat launch is available as well as a fishing pier where guests can access quality fishing for walleye, smallmouth bass and perch.

Porcupine Mountains Union Bay Campground

Porcupine Mountains Union Bay Campground is located in Porcupine Mountain State Park, which is located 30 miles northeast of Bessemer on the shores on Lake Superior. It offers 100 sites that include electric, a picnic table and fire ring. Facility amenities include modern restrooms, a playground and boat launch on Lake Superior as well as a picnic pavilion. The park encompassed more than 60,000 acres and has more than 20 hiking trails with several accessible from the campground including a trail that follows Lake Superior and others that access waterfalls. Other recreational activities include hunting, cross-country skiing and swimming several lakes as well as fishing in Lake Superior for salmon and trout.
