Nanaimo, British Columbia, is a mid-sized community on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island. The region is part of the Pacific Northwest Coastal Temperate Rainforest. Sea-kayakers can paddle the many bays and coves around Nanaimo keeping an eye out for orcas, sea lions and harbor seals. Hiking can be found in the forest surrounding the village. Visitors should be prepared for rain as the region is known for grey skies and lots of precipitation. There are several options for RV parks in the greater Nanaimo region.

Living Forest Oceanside RV Park and Campground

Living Forest RV Park is on 53 acres of oceanfront property. Large RVs have a dedicated section for camping. Smaller RVs and tent campers have a section reserved for them in the park. All RV sites have water, 30- or 50-amp electric, sewer and Wi-Fi connections. Pets are allowed. Fishing, sea-kayaking, bird-watching and wildlife observation can be done from the campground. Orcas, stellar sea lions, harbor seals, bald eagles, harbor porpoise, osprey and pacific white-sided dolphin can be spotted from the campground. Hikers can head inland for trails through the rain forest. The campground has bathrooms and showers for guest comfort.

Mountainaire Campground and RV Park has sites for most RV sizes. The park is nestled into the conifer forests of the rain forest. There are hot showers, bathrooms, guest shelters, barbecue grills and fire rings on the property for guest use. Site hookups include sewer, water and 30- or 50-amp electric. Pets are welcome. Food preparation and storage should be done according to posted rules because of frequent bear activity in the area.
