Garland, Texas, is an urban town, just like nearby Dallas, but it also has a lot of nature to explore. The Spring Creek Forest Preserve is an area populated by trees that are as much as 300 years old, and there are several trails through the area. There are also nearby lakes, any many modern campgrounds to use as a base for exploration.

Collin Park

Collin Park is a short distance from Garland on Lake Lavon. There is not much shade here, but there are plenty of watersports to enjoy. The campground is surrounded by a marina, but has 53 RV campsites with full hookup including 30- and 50-amp connections. The campground also offers a small primitive camping area with no shade.

The large marina has spaces for boats, and there are plenty of these--ski boats, pontoon boats and fishing boats--available for rent. Features at the marina include a floating restaurant , and a beach. The campground also offers horseback riding and hiking trails around the lake.

Plantation Place

Plantation Place is an RV park, and it does not allow pop-ups or tent camping. It has accommodations for RVs only, and does not offer showers or public restrooms. The site is near an old plantation house, which is where it gets the name. The campground has its own private lake, and is also very close to Lake Ray Hubbard. There are 53 RV sites with 30- and 50-amp hookups. Free Wi-Fi is offered, as well as cable TV and phones.

Find many water-related activities along Lake Ray Hubbard, such as boat rentals and fishing. Wilderness trails are found both on-site, and in the forest preserve in nearby Garland.

Lafons RV Parks

Lafons RV Parks, named after the proprietor and not the similar-sounding lake, offers three campsites in the same area on the north end of Lake Lavon. The main site is on the lake and has 40 RV sites with full hookups. There is free Wi-Fi and cable TV and the main site has a laundry. There are no showers or public restrooms at any of the three sites. This is another park only for RVs, with no pop-up or tent camping available. Spaces offered are large, 72 feet deep and 32 feet wide. Most of the sites are on the water, and all of them have great views.

The campground is close to boat ramps, and there are boat rentals available in the area. Fishing is a hotly pursued activity on the local lakes, and there are trails around the lake and in the surrounding area for exploring.
