Burgtec Penthouse
Burgtec's Penthouse mountain bike platforms provide ground clearance, replaceable pins for quick repair and a concave design that keeps feet on the pedal. Calling them "brilliantly grippy pedals with amazing build quality," BikeRadar's Andrew Dodd complimented the Penthouse's concave platform, saying "the pedal has a deep feel and envelops your foot," while the replaceable pins "offer amazing vice-like grip" on a rider's feet. Dodd also praised the Penthouse's toughness, saying, "Lesser pedals literally disintegrate in the slop, but the Penthouse Flats absolutely love it."
Speedplay Drillium
Called "the ultimate racing flat" by CompetetiveCyclist.com, Speedplay's Drillium platform pedals feature a dual-bearing design for smooth operation, a sturdy 12-millimeter spindle, 20 replaceable pins for solid grip, and a large concave platform for effective power transfer. Bicycling.com's Ron Koch hailed the Drillium's replaceable pins, noting they "provide outstanding grip," and also mentioned "the large platform offers generous load distribution across the foot." He also said "those who ride in adverse conditions will love the open framework that lets gunk pass through" and the grease port, which makes maintenance a snap.
Easton Flatboy
Easton's Flatboy pedals are the poster boys for toughness. With an alloy body and steel axle, the Flatboys are designed to put up with repeated abuse. A concave design and eight pins per side keep riders attached to them and provide ample power transfer. Calling the Flatboy "surely the toughest and most trusted" performance platform bike pedals, BikeRadar's Justin Lorenz said "fact that they remain largely unchanged in 15 years should tell you plenty about the performance" of the Flatboys.
