Atlanta Motor Speedway
Head a few miles west from McDonough to Hampton, Georgia, where you'll find year-round camping on the grounds of Atlanta Motor Speedway. The property offers several different areas for camping within and around the speedway, and you'll find full RV hookups and dump stations in each separate campground. To get inside the action during race week, reserve a space in the infield, where RVs can camp in the Flock Brothers Corral area. This area offers camp showers, a dump station between Turns 1 and 2 and access to tram stops that will take you around the Speedway. The Trackside Terrace, which overlooks the speedway on the backstretch, has 61 full hookup sites, or choose Club One, where 30 asphalt RV sites are located at the base of the Winners Grandstand. Legends Lakeside Camping, outside of the main grounds, is also a quieter option that offers 25 gravel spaces surrounding a small lake with water, sewer, and electric service hookups with 30 or 50 amps.

High Falls State Park
Just south down I-75 from McDonough, you'll find High Falls State Park, a park of more than 1,000 acres that is located on land that was once a booming industrial town in the 1800s that became a ghost town in the1880s when a railroad passed it by. The park has many amusements for the whole family including a pool, lake, river and waterfall. There are 103 sites at the park's campground that accommodate tents, trailers and full hookup site for RVs, including 30-amp electric service.
You'll find miles of nature trails here winding throughout the park, perfect for hiking and exploring the wilderness, and the waterfall on the Towaliga River is a must-see. Head to the site of a former gristmill on the river and imagine what the bustling town looked like centuries ago. If you're bringing along your boat, there are two ramps you can use to launch it, though horsepower is limited to 10 hp. You can also rent out fishing boats, kayaks, canoes and paddleboats during the warm season.
