Grimshaw, Alberta, is a small community in the Peace River Country of the province. The Mackenzie Highway begins in Grimshaw, ending eventually in Yellowknife, Northwest Territory. The Peace River runs through the region, making for easy canoeing and kayaking possibilities. Fly fishing and hiking are within the area. Moose, bear, elk, wolves and eagles are frequently spotted. RV travelers in the region have a few options in Grimshaw and the surrounding area.

The Creek

The Creek RV Park shares its property with the Creek Golf Course. RV travelers can find respite from the long, northern drives at the Creek. Sites include water, sewer and 30-amp electric, Showers, bathrooms, a guest lounge, on-site snack bar, dump station and coin-operated laundry room are available for guest use. Pets are welcome. Bird watchers can head to the Peace River to try to spot osprey, heron, several species of duck and songbirds. Anglers can try their luck at the river for arctic grayling, char and trout.

Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park

RV travelers to the Grimshaw region can choose the Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park as a base camp to explore the area. The park is approximately 18 miles from Grimshaw. There are limited RV sites that include water and 30-amp electric connections. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, and firewood is included with the site fee. Pets are welcome. Guests need to adhere to posted rules for food storage and preparation because of frequent bear activity in the area. The park has trails for hiking, biking, and backpacking.

Sulphur Lake Provincial Recreation Area

Sulphur Lake Recreation Area, within about 20 miles of Grimshaw, is managed by the province and offers outdoor recreation opportunities along with limited numbers of RV camping sites. The sites have water connections and free firewood. There are fire pits with grills and picnic tables at each site. RVs should be self-contained for grey-water systems. Toilets and showers are on the premises for guest use. Pets are allowed. Food storage and preparation needs to be done according to posted rules. Bears are frequently spotted. Guests can hike, bike, fish, canoe and kayak at the recreation area.
