Springerville, Arizona is located in eastern Arizona within the White Mountains just north of the two-million-acre Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Campers seeking solitude among nature will find a number of campgrounds within a 20-minute drive of the small town of Springerville as well as the area's many hiking trails and lakes.

Alpine Divide Campground - Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest

Located just off the Coronado Trail Scenic Byway (U.S. Route 191), the Alpine Divide campground sits at an elevation of 8,459 feet. Containing 12 campsites, the campground offers privacy and shade thanks to old-growth Ponderosa pines throughout the property. All sites accommodate tent and trailer campers up to 12 feet. Hiking enthusiasts may appreciate the campground's proximity to Escudilla Mountain, the second-highest peak within the White Mountains. Open from mid-May until mid-September, this primitive campground does not offer potable water or electricity but does have vault toilets. Additional amenities include campsite grills, fire rings and picnic tables.

Benny Creek Campground - Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest

Located at 8,250 feet, Benny Creek Campground is located off Highway 373, about 15 miles southwest of Springerville. The campground offers 24 sites and is open from May through September. All campsites contain a picnic table, cooking grill, fire ring and may accommodate trailers up to 24 feet in length. The campground also offers potable water, vault toilets and an on-site garbage receptacle. Utility hookups and dump station are not available for RV camping. Benny Creek also presents fishing opportunities for rainbow and brown trout within the Bunch Reservoir adjacent to the campground. Hiking enthusiasts may hike right out their tent door on the West Baldy Trail or Amberon Flat.

Brook Char Campground - Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest

Brook Char Campground is located along the east shore of the Big Lake Recreation Area at an elevation of 9,100 feet about 25 miles south of Springerville. Open from mid May through September, this campground offers 13 campsites for tents only. Each site contains a cooking grill, fire pit and picnic table with vault toilets and trash dumpsters located nearby. Nature enthusiasts can encounter wildlife like elk, deer and wild turkey while hiking Big Lake Lookout Trail that starts within the Brook Char Campground.
