Houghton Lake, Michigan, approximately three hours northwest of Detroit, rests on the banks of Houghton Lake, Michigan's largest inland lake. This site is ideal for fishing and boating excursions. Nearby Higgins Lake facilitates winter activities, such as cross-country skiing. Houghton Lake also is within 30 minutes of Roscommon State Forest Park, which has paths for cycling and hiking. While visiting Houghton Lake, go easy on your budget by staying in one of the town's inexpensive hotels.

Super 8 Motel is less than a mile from the boat docks of Houghton Lake and features free access to Wi-Fi Internet, guest laundromat and picnic area with barbecue grills. This motel also has truck and RV parking spaces. Guest rooms at Super 8 feature an ironing board, while some of the motel's suites include a Jacuzzi. Super 8 is less than 30 minutes from the Old Nursery Trail near Higgins Lake. This path provides opportunities for nature walks and bird-watching.
