Log Cabins Around Portland, OR

Log Cabins Around Portland, OR
One of the jewels of the Pacific Northwest, Portland, Oregon, is one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the United States. In the mild winters and warm summers, visitors will find an array of outdoor fun in and around the city. Take a pleasant walk along the reservoirs below Mount Tabor. Look for hawks and meadowlarks on the trails through Powell Butte Nature Park. Or venture outside the city to Mount Hood for some rigorous pleasure on your feet, wheels or skis. While you're at it, go the rustic route in a log cabin.

Aspen Cabin

East of Portland runs a gigantic green belt of national forests that includes the Fremont-Winema National Forest. Inside this rugged and rustic park lies Aspen Cabin, a destination as far away as getaways get. Built in 1930 as worksite for Forest Service employees, this log cabin is not a luxury destination. That means no hot tub, no TV and no four-post bed. What you do get are four cots, a dining table, chairs, countertop and a wood stove to keep you warm. Bring your own forks and spoons. Bring your own bedding. And bring your own water--that means filling your jugs in the nearby Mud Creek Campground.
