Las Vegas, known for its casinos and nightlife, has desert temperatures allowing the mega-resorts to create extravagant pools to keep visitors busy during the day. Recreational enthusiasts enjoy resorts with pool areas spanning acres with rivers, waterfalls and shaded cabanas. Beyond Las Vegas, Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Valley of Fire State Park offer hiking and boating. There are some popular pools to consider when choosing accommodations in Las Vegas.

Rather than offering a simple pool area, the Mandalay Bay prides itself on an 11-acre beach, the "ultimate in aquatic relaxation," according to the resort's website. Three swimming pools, a jogging track, a wave pool and lazy river border 2,700 tons of sand for wiggling your toes. One hundred cabanas are for rent in addition to day beds, bungalows, and villas with wait-staff service. In the summer, the Beach Concert Series features artists playing above the beach while swimmers on blankets watch from the beach. Mandalay Bay also offers the Shark Reef Aquarium, with more than 2,000 animals, including sharks, piranha, giant rays, and endangered green sea turtles.
