Golf
People come to Florida from all around the globe to experience world-class golf. Destin is one of the premiere golf areas in the state with more than a dozen courses within the city boundaries and 11 more in nearby Santa Rosa, Niceville and Fort Walton Beach. Among the more famous communities in Destin is Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, which features four 18-hole championship courses designed by some of the masters of the game, including Robert Trent Jones Jr., Rees Jones and Tom Jackson.
Water Activities
With the beautiful blue Gulf of Mexico creating the border on the south, there's no shortage of water fun in Destin. There are a number of establishments in town that cater to those looking for a good time on the gulf, with offerings ranging from canoeing and kayaking to renting personal watercraft or taking to the sky with a parasail. For those looking to take part in a little less strenuous water fun, there are boat rentals, tourist cruises and fishing expeditions available every day of the week.
Beach Activities
With 30 miles of coastline in the county, the whites sands of Destin draw thousands of people to the beaches every year. The Destin/Fort Walton area has four fully restored beach parks--James Lee Park, Marler Memorial Park, Beasley Park and Wayside Park--where you can enjoy the sun and sand. Each of the parks offers clean bathrooms, showers and picnic facilities. Another six mini-parks in the area offer the same facilities on a smaller scale. The Destin area also has dunes that local officials and residents work very hard to maintain and protect.
