Monticello, Arkansas, is a mid-size community in the southeast portion of the state. The University of Arkansas has a branch campus in Monticello. The White River National Wildlife Refuge is within an hour's drive of the city, and bird-watchers can try spotting the many native species of birds in the region at the refuge. RV travelers have several parks to choose from in the greater Monticello area.

Pecan Grove RV Park

Lake Chicot abuts the Pecan Grove RV Park, giving visitors easy fishing, canoeing and kayaking opportunities from the campground. Pecan Grove is 30 minutes from Monticello and within 15 minutes of the Mississippi state line. RVs of most sizes are accepted at the campground. Guests have access to bathrooms and showers, a laundry room and a swimming pool, and there is a pier and boat launch on the premises. Pecan trees provide shade from the hot sun. Pets are allowed if leashed.

Cane Creek State Park

Cane Creek State Park is approximately 26 miles from Monticello. The park is part of the Arkansas state park system. RV campers can stay at sites with 30-amp electric and water hookups. There are showers and bathrooms on the premises. Pets are allowed but must remain leashed at all times. The Cane Creek Kayak Trail takes paddlers on a 2.5 mile trip through the mangrove swamps and bayous of the area. Kayaks can be rented from the park office. Visitors can keep an eye out for the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, which was once thought to be extinct but has been recently spotted in the region.

J & S RV Park

J & S RV Park is located in Monticello and offers a range of services and amenities. RV sites have 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer connections. Barbecue grills, fire rings, picnic tables, bathrooms and showers are available for guest use. Pets are welcome if leashed. Visitors looking for canoeing and fishing can drive 1.4 miles to a nearby lake. Road bicyclists can take advantage of the region's country roads and rural by-ways for training and touring.
