Port Mansfield sits right on the eastern coast of Texas. The area offers many coves for boating, swimming, fishing, wildlife viewing, sea kayaking and walking along the beach. Also, across the Laguna Madre lies the Padre Island National Seashore, which has sea turtle hatchling releases that are open to the public and birdwatching opportunities.

Bayview RV Park

On the north side of Port Mansfield, Bayview RV Park advertises itself as, "the quietest, most friendly park in the Rio Grande Valley." It offers full hookup campsites for recreational vehicles, as well as showers for visitors.

Padre Island National Seashore: South Beach

Padre Island National Seashore offers several campsites available throughout the island. The South Beach area perhaps lies the closest to Port Mansfield. A primitive area, with no paved roads, all driving here is done on the beach itself. A chemical toilet and a large trash receptacle can be found at the South Beach entrance. Although there are no designated campsites, a camping permit is required, which is good for up to 14 days. Campfires are permitted in either pits or contained barbecue grills. Visitors can find showers and flush-toilet facilities at the Malaquite Visitor Center.

Padre Island National Seashore: Malaquite Campground

The Malaquite Campground, another campground within the Padre Island National Seashore, offers more amenities than the South Shore Campground, but is still fairly primitive camping. The 42 sites can accommodate recreational vehicles, and there are tent sites as well. The campground does not provide hookups for recreational vehicles at the sites, but there is a dump station. Other amenities include also picnic tables, flush toilets and cold-water showers. Campfires are allowed in contained barbecue grills. The campground requires camping permits, which are good for up to 14 days.
