Campgrounds near Newnan, Georgia

Newnan, Georgia, is southwest of Atlanta, between the Talladega National Forest and the Oconee National Forest. Many campgrounds are supported by the outlying communities that surround Newnan. The parks offer extra perks for travelers with children, as well as camping close to local historic sites and state parks.

John Tanner State Park

John Tanner State Park lies 29 miles from Newnan and offers 31 RV and tent sites, complete with cable television hookups. Laundry and dump station facilities are provided. Guests can test the waters at the large sand swimming beach, purchase a game of miniature golf or use the outdoor games areas for volleyball and horseshoes. In season, boat and pedal boats are available for rent. The park has two hiking trails and a boat ramp on the lake.

Sweetwater Valley Park

Sweetwater Valley Park is located 32 miles north of Newnan. This is a gated park with tent campsites and pull-through RV campsites available. The park provides a dump station, bathhouse and laundry for guest use. The grounds support several outdoor games and walking trails. There is a playground for children and a small driving range for adults. Guests can mine for gems in a park filled with large oak and sycamore trees. Pickett's Mill Battlefield Historic Site is 15 miles from the park and offers four miles of hiking trails around the Civil War battlefield.

Yogi Bear's Georgia Jellystone Park

Jellystone Park has tent and RV sites with full hookups and big rig access provided. The sites come with free Wi-Fi service. Guests can request DirecTV service, and 50-amp electricity is available for an additional fee. Special events are held for holidays, and the park regularly schedules arts and crafts, hayrides and train rides. Both a pool and splash pool let kids of all ages enjoy the water. Miniature golf and pedal carts are also included on the list of activities offered. The park is 34 miles northwest of Newnan and 32 miles from Sweetwater Creek State Park, where travelers can canoe on the George Sparks Reservoir or hike along nine miles of trails through rocky bluffs. Full moon hikes and other special guided hikes are held regularly.
