Freeport is just outside of Rockford, Illinois, near the Wisconsin border. Freeport is surrounded by a number of small, primitive natural areas and parks. The RV campgrounds are all a short commute from one or more of these parks and offer a variety of additional amenities to recommend them to outdoorsmen and women or family campers.

Emerald Acres Campground

Emerald Acres offers 80 sites with full hookups and 50 with partial hookups. The centerpiece of the business is the barn---over a century old---which holds a restaurant and kitchen and game room. The campground hosts a square dance in the barn on several holiday weekends, and planned activities are available throughout the summer. The grounds feature four ponds---one dedicated to pond swimming, with an aerator system to keep the water clear. Families can share a hay ride and old-fashioned outdoor games. The campground is 10 miles west of Freeport, between Wards Grove Nature Preserve, 13 miles to the west, and Oakdale Nature Preserve, 9 miles to the east. Oakdale has restored prairie and forest with several miles of hiking trails.
