Campgrounds near Minneapolis, Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minnesota has many urban and outdoor activities. Within the city there is a series of multi-use trails designed for running, hiking and bicycling. The Mississippi River flows through the city making for easy access to canoeing, kayaking and fishing. In winter, there are groomed cross-country ski trails and snowshoeing areas in the city's many parks. There are several options for campgrounds in Minneapolis and the surrounding area.

Minneapolis Northwest KOA

The Minneapolis Northwest KOA has sites for tent campers and RV travelers. Tent sites are level, with grassy areas for tent pitching. Picnic tables and fire rings are at each tent site. RV sites have 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer connections. All guests may use the showers, bathrooms, laundry room and other park amenities. Pets are welcome if leashed. Good Sam and AAA discounts are available. Guests looking for urban adventures and shopping can head to the Mall of America, which claims to be the largest shopping mall in the U.S. It is a 30-minute drive from the KOA.

Town and Country Campground and RV Park

The Town and Country Campground is 10 minutes from downtown Minneapolis (traffic depending.) Tent campers can pitch their shelters at a number of sites. Picnic tables and fire rings are at each tent area, and there are fresh water spigots for drinking and cooking water. RV sites come with water, sewer and 30- or 50-amp electric connections. Tent sites have views of the surrounding trees and forests. Pets are welcome if leashed. Showers, bathrooms, laundry and a swimming pool are available for guest use. Fort Snelling State Park is within a 15-minute drive. Visitors to the park can ride the mountain bike trails, or hike the numerous trails at Fort Snelling.

Bunker Hills Campgrounds

Guests in the region can opt to stay at the Bunker Hill Campgrounds, part of the Anorka County park system. The Bunker Hill Campgrounds are within a 15-minute drive to Minneapolis. Tent and RV sites are available. Tent sites come with picnic tables and fire pits. Many tent sites are secluded and private. Fires are allowed but guests should check with rangers regarding use of outside firewood. RV sites have water and 30-amp electric connections. Pets are allowed if leashed. The campground is open seasonally between April and October. Showers and vault toilets are on the premises for guest use. Within the park boundaries are trails for hiking and biking.
