Campgrounds Near Atlanta, Texas

Atlanta, Texas, is home to approximately 5,700 people, but don't let the size of the population fool you. This community is on Highway 59, a designated NAFTA route. This small town has a Super Walmart and an 88-acre city park complete with hiking trails, and it offers more than 30 restaurants to choose from. Wright Patman Lake, 15 miles north of Atlanta, offers some of the best bass and catfish fishing in the state.

Atlanta State Park

Atlanta State Park consists of more than 1,475 acres on Wright Patman Lake. This lake spreads across more than 20,000 acres and attracts people who enjoy fishing, boating, water-skiing, swimming and other watersports. The state park offers other activities including hiking, mountain biking and camping.

The campgrounds at the park accommodate tent and RV camping. Both pull-through and back-in sites are available and have hookups for water, sewer and electric. Other amenities include restrooms, picnic tables and fire pits. Some campsites have shade and others do not, so choose wisely during the summer months.

Amazing Grace Acres RV Park

Located in the town of Atlanta, Texas, the Amazing Grace Acres RV Park offers full hookup sites with 30- and 50-amp service, as well as tent camping. Laundry facilities, a dump station and restrooms are also available for campers. A great spot to use as a base camp, this campground is within a 30-minute drive of three state parks, the 88-acre city park and some of the best fishing in Texas or Arkansas.

Sulphur Point Campground

Sulphur Point is located at the reservoir spillway for Wright Patman Lake. There is a bait shop here with 14 RV sites with full hookups and an area to pitch tents. The tent camping spaces are first come, first served. The attraction of Sulphur Point is the fishing. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Wright Patman Lake has excellent fishing opportunities for blue catfish, crappie and white and hybrid bass. The fishing opportunities for largemouth bass and flathead catfish are also very good. Some of the best fishing has historically been found around the spillway found near Sulphur Point, which is one of the deepest areas of the lake and where the stocked fish are released. The Sulphur Point Campground is just a short 100-yard walk from the spillway.
