Waverly Tennessee is a crossroads town less than fives miles from Kentucky Lake, a dam reservoir of the Tennessee River. The Duck and Buffalo Rivers flow into the Tennessee in the vicinity, so the area is rich with opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Also, a number of state parks and conservation areas line the banks of the lake, running right up across the state line and into Kentucky, offering access to hiking and nature watching.

Buffalo River Camping and Canoeing

Open from April to October, this campground sits on the banks of the Buffalo River, a tributary of the neighboring Tennessee. It offers RV sites with full hookups, as well as primitive tent sites. The campground is serviced by a camp store. Buffalo River Camping and Canoeing also rents canoes and offers access to a 26-mile stretch of river, which is lined with areas for swimming, picnicking and fishing.

Tennessee River RV and Camp Resort

The Tennessee River RV and Camp Resort has 20 RV sites, some of which have full hookups, and all with at least water and electric hookups, picnic tables and fire rings. 30- and 50-amp electricity is available at all sites. Camping facilities include showers, coin laundry, dump station and camp store. Other accommodations are available in the form of rental cabins and a primitive camping area. The campground also has an outdoor, over-sized chess set and a playground, as well as access to local mountain-biking trails.

Buffalo/I-40 KOA

The Buffalo/I-40 KOA is less than 10 miles south of Waverly, in Hurricane Mills. The campground offers sites with full hookups (up to 50-amp electricity) for RVs up to 65 feet long. Other accomodations are available in the form of one-bedroom rental "kabins" and tent campsites. The camping services at the KOA include LP gas and firewood sales, an outdoor swimming pool, showers and a coin laundry. The KOA offers access to boating and fishing on the Buffalo, Duck and Tennessee Rivers. It's location just off I-40 is convenient for even the biggest of rigs.

Birdsong Resort, Marina and Campground

Located on the west bank of the Tennessee River, below the dam, the Birdsong Resort's campground offers 50 RV sites. Every site has water and electrical hookups (up to 50 amps), and some have sewage as well. The features and facilities of the resort include courts for basketball, volleyball, horseshoes and shuffleboard, an outdoor swimming pool, fire rings, a playground, and a marina with boat rentals and store. Other accommodations are available in the form of rental cottages. The Resort is located between the Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park and the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, roughly five miles to either, and affords convenient access to both of them by road or boat.
