Byron, Georgia, is home to several national forests and wildlife parks. Visitors to this area can enjoy hiking and biking trails at Oconee National Forest as well as bird watching and other wildlife observation. The Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge allows guests to get up close to a wide variety of wild creatures. At the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, guests cqn visit various wildlife habitats and enjoy seeing animals in their natural state. Visitors to Byron can camp at one of the nearby campgrounds.

Indian Springs State Park offers 88 campgrounds for tent camping. Each campsite offers a fire ring and ample woodland cover. On-site amenities include swimming and minigolf. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy boating and fishing on the lake located within the park parameters. A mile-long nature trail is also available for guests to take a leisurely stroll in the forest. Indian Springs State Park was founded during the Great Depression and offers a seasonal museum showcasing its history. Guests can enjoy fresh springwater at the Spring House as well. Nearby is the Jarrell Plantation Historic Site. This historical monument features a picnic area as well as various museums that showcase a sawmill, syrup evaporator and sugar cane press.

Guests to High Falls State Park enjoy available tent camping at one of the 103 campsites. The park features amenities such as picnic areas and campsite fire rings. Guests are allowed to bring their own boat and launch it on the Towaliga River, which runs through the park. Canoe, pedal boat and kayak rentals are available at the High Falls State Park office. The Towaliga River features a scenic waterfall as well as whitewater rafting options. Minigolf and an on-site swimming pool keep all visitors occupied. High Falls State Park also features 4.5 miles of hiking trails through the backwoods. Another hiking trail is available to the ruins of the once-prosperous industrial town that existed in the park during the early 1800s.

Interstate RV and Campground features 40 campsites. The campground is located near Oakview Golf Course and Scout Lake. Scout Lake features boating, kayaking and canoeing. Fishing and swimming are also available at this lake. Visitors to Byron who choose to stay at Interstate RV and Campground will enjoy its proximity to antique shopping, a shopping mall and various historical sites.

Ponderosa Campground

This campground is located just outside Byron and features on-site swimming and fishing. Campsites are available with fire rings and a picnic area for community use. Ponderosa Campground is also near Pierceson Lake, where guests can enjoy kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Ocmulgee National Monument is located approximately 10 miles from the campground and features historical information dating back to the Paleo Indian Period. Outdoor concerts and theater performances are available in the heart of Byron.
