Alvarado is located in the Prairies and Lakes region of Texas just 43 miles southwest of Dallas. The region is a transitional area between the west Texas plains and the pine forests of east Texas. Anglers come from all over Texas to fish in the regions many lakes. Canoeing, kayaking and swimming are popular water sports, and hiking and cycling are popular on land. Wildlife enthusiasts may want to be on the lookout for the Houston toad, the Golden-cheeked warbler and the Texas kangaroo rat, rare species that call the Prairies and Lakes region home.

Rustic Creek Ranch

Rustic Creek Ranch is located eight miles north of Alvarado, Texas, and offers 248 full-service RV sites in addition to 37 cottages. 81 of the RV sites are arranged in what Rustic Creek Ranch calls its V-Pod Lot, which gives RV campers a small triangularly shaped front lawn. All sites have concrete porches, sidewalks, flower beds and wood pergola. Four private bath and laundry facilities are available on site. There are two family pools in addition to an adult pool and hot tub. There are also four different buildings available to rent for group events. Rustic Creek Ranch is just 25 miles southwest of Joe Pool Lake, a 6,469-acre manmade reservoir that provides fishing for large-mouth bass, white bass, white crappie and channel catfish. Hiking, cycling and swimming are also popular on the four state parks that surround Joe Pool Lake.

Stewart's RV Park

Stewart's RV Park is located five miles west of Alvarado, Texas, and offers 50 RV sites, each with water, sewer and electrical hookups. A dump station is available, in addition to restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. Small dogs are allowed. Daily, weekly and monthly rates are available. Stewart's RV Park is 12 miles east of Lake Pat Cleburne, a popular spot for fishing bass, catfish and crappie.

Eagle Ridge RV Park and Resort

Eagle Ridge RV Park and Resort is located 12 miles south of Alvarado. A swimming pool and laundry facilities are available on site, as are wireless Internet and access to a fitness room. Eagle Ridge RV Park also features a stocked fishing lake inside the park and a community center with seating for up to 120 is available for rental for groups. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate Eagle Ridge's rural Texas setting, which makes for miles of country roads to cycle along.
