Lake Whitney State Park
Lake Whitney State Park is 45 miles from Meridian and has tent camping and RV sites. The most unique part of the park is the 2,000-foot paved runway that is open to aircraft. Camping under your parked aircraft is also permitted. If you are flying into the unmanned Lake Whitney Airstrip, it is a left-hand pattern and the self-monitoring radio frequency is 122.9 Mhz. Lake Whitney's facilities include restrooms, pull-thru RV sites, a dump station, a recreation hall and a Texas State Park Store. There is a one-mile interpretive trail on the east side of the campground and another hiking/biking trail on the west side that incorporates a wildlife-observation blind. There also is boating, swimming and fishing, including an annual youth fishing tournament in June.

Arrowhead Resort
The Arrowhead Resort is on the southeast side of Lake Whitney, 23 miles from Meridian. The 22-acre resort features RV camping, cabins and an on-site restaurant, Mel's Steakhouse, that is open on Friday and Saturday nights. The cabins are unique, including tree-house cabins, family cottages and bunkhouses. Several of the cabins are within close proximity of each other, including duplex-style cabins, to accommodate large groups or families. The resort is on Lake Whitney and has lake swimming and fishing, as well as an outdoor pool. The nearest boat ramp access is a mile away at the lake reservoir. Amenities include Wi-Fi in all the cabins and RV sites, DVDs and VCRs in the cabins and satellite TV in five of the cabins.

Dinosaur Valley State Park
Dinosaur Valley State Park is 30 miles north of Meridian. There are camping options within the state park, including campsites with water and electrical hookups. There are also campsites that require a 1- to 2.5-mile hike in the North Primitive area. The park also has restrooms, a dump station and a Texas State Park Store. Dinosaur Valley State Park has more than 12 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Horseback riding is allowed in the South Equestrian Area.
The popular Dinosaur Valley Trail is a 4.5-mile loop that provides views of the park and takes you into the riverbed, where the treasures of this park exist--the preserved dinosaur tracks that date back more than 100 million years.
