Columbus is home to Fort Benning where the U.S. Army trains prospective rangers and paratroopers. While many visitors to the area are connected with the military, Columbus also offers natural and historical attractions beyond the adjacent military installation that entices campers to park the RV for a night or more. The Chattahoochee cuts along the edge of the town dividing Georgia from Alabama with parks and trails splashed across its banks north and south of the city. Away from the river, a day trip to Andersonville National Historic Site reminds visitors of mankind's capacity for both cruelty and endurance.

Columbus Farmer's Market RV Park

A 15-mile trail known as the RiverWalk takes hikers and cyclists through the city of Columbus and into the countryside. Columbus Farmer's Market RV Park provides RV sites with electric and water hookup near the path inside the commercial section of the city. The amenities of one of Georgia's largest cities are at the disposal of guests, which include the National Civil War Museum within walking distance of the park and the National Infantry Museum a short drive away at Patriot Park on Fort Benning.

Lake Pines Campground and RV Park

Along the northern edge of the woodlands that comprise much of Fort Benning, Lake Pines Campground and RV Park offers visitors pull-through, full hookup RV sites and primitive campsites set along the pines that shelter the park. The peaceful atmosphere of the park and the natural beauty of this secluded section of Columbus allows for personal reflection following a trip to historical attractions such as the National Prisoner of War Museum on the site of a Civil War prisoner of war camp in Andersonville. The park also plays host to larger gatherings with an event center. A pool, dump station, propane and laundry facility complete the amenities at this park.

Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina

Military service members, dependents and retirees can opt to stay in this wooded campground tucked away on the southwest corner of Fort Benning. The Chattahoochee River provides the playground for guests staying in the rental cabins, tent sites or full hookup RV sites at Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina. A pier extending onto the river allows anglers to drop a line close to camp, while a boat ramp encourages visitors to leave the comforts of the campground to find their own fishing spot. A store ensures that campers are properly provisioned with camp necessities such as propane and firewood, while the playground, pool, dump station and laundry attend to other practical and aesthetic needs.
