Globe sits at the southwestern corner of the Tonto National Forest. One of the primary draws of the forest is the availability of recreational trails. The park contains 900 miles of trails, and each of these campgrounds is situated in the Globe Ranger District, within a short drive of the town.

Kellner Campground

Kellner Group Campground has mountain views. It is located less than 5 miles outside of Globe at an elevation of about 4,500 feet. The campground contains eight units and picnicking is possible, but the area has no potable water provided. This campground is not accessible for trailers. This part of the park is open all year, with a two-week limit on stays and reservations required. The campground's isolation means there are almost no facilities offered except a vault toilet. A "pack it in, pack it out" motto applies for stays in this campground. According to the U.S. Forest Service, "Any trail not within a wilderness area or specifically posted 'closed' is open for mountain-bike use" at Tonto National Park.

Pinal and Upper Pinal Campgrounds

Pinal and Upper Pinal Campgrounds are less than 8 miles south of Globe and a half-mile apart. The two combine to offer 16 units of camping at an elevation of 7,500 feet. For greater privacy, Upper Pinal has only three sites. All sites can accommodate trailers under 20 feet in length, but the road in can be tough for trailers over 16 feet long. Vault toilets are accessible. The camp is open April to November, and camping stays are limited to 14 days at these locations. Potable water is not provided, and all water service to the area is discontinued in winter. These two campgrounds offer access to an extensive web of trails where visitors can hike or mountain bike and experience scenic views.

Pioneer Pass Campground

Pioneer Pass, 11 miles south of Globe, offers trailhead access at an elevation of 5,900 feet in the Pinal Mountains. Toilets are provided here, but no other facilities or hookups. The idea of "pack it in, pack it out" also affects camping in this portion of the park. Travelers can select among 23 sites, and trailers under 18 feet can use the campground. This location has a limited season--from April to November--with a two-week limit on stays. Just south of the campground, hikers will find the Squaw Springs Trail to Pinal Peak. East Mountain Trail offers desert terrain. Mountain biking is also possible in the area.
