Grantsville, a small town in northwestern Maryland, is known for the Amish communities around it. Grantsville, near the Casselman River and surrounded by state forests and parks, is within 10 miles of more than a dozen trails. Hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing are prevalent in the area. The historic Alternate Route 40 passes through Grantsville. This road, which used to be the National Road, the first federally funded highway, includes the Casselman Bridge, built in 1813.

The Casselman Inn

The Casselman Inn has four rooms, and its motel has 40. Each motel room includes furniture made by local craftsmen, a private bath and television. The historic hotel, which was built in 1824, has a restaurant that serves simple country food with Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish influences. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. A bakery and antique shop are located in the basement of the hotel. Visitors can watch as the baked goods are prepared. Casselman Ventures, originally an 1890 school building that has been turned into shops, apartments and offices, is across the street.

Comfort Inn

The 96-room Comfort Inn is less than five miles from New Germany State Park, which offers activities such as boating, cross-country skiing, fishing, canoeing, hiking and swimming. Each motel room comes with Wi-Fi access and a flat-screen television. Motel amenities include an indoor heated pool, fitness center, business center and free hot breakfast. Two pets up to 15 pounds each are allowed for a deposit and nightly fee. The Hilltop Restaurant and Lounge is less than a mile away.

Days Inn and Suites

The Days Inn and Suites is about 13 miles from Grantsville and 10 miles from the historical site of George Washington's Headquarters. The motel has a sauna, fitness center, business center, free continental breakfast and free parking, with spaces for trucks and RVs. Each of the 91 rooms includes free Wi-Fi and premium cable television. Pets are allowed for a nightly fee. Nearby restaurants include Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant and Penny's Diner.
