Campgrounds near Troy, Michigan

The city of Troy is located in the suburbs of northern Detroit. Outdoor recreational activities are limited with this city, although Troy is home to a Family Aquatic Center with wave pools, water slides and a sandy beach area. Camping is permitted in recreation areas and county parks within 25 miles of the city limits.

Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

The Pontiac Lake Recreation Area is 17 miles west of Troy, Michigan. This area has 176 modern campground sites with electrical hookups, flush toilets and a playground. A rustic campground with 24 sites and vault toilets for campers with horses also is located in the park. Pontiac Lake is home to an 11-mile bike trail, 1/3-mile long sandy beach, sheltered picnic area, boat launch and a 1.9 mile hiking trail. Fishing is permitted and popular catches include bass, pike and panfish. Snacks and beverages are available from a concession stand within the recreation area.

Addison Oaks County Park

Addison Oaks County Park is located 18 miles north of Troy. The park has a small swimming lake with a sandy beach area and the larger Buhl Lake, which features a boat launch and boat rental facility. Other amenities include 7.5 miles of hiking trails, 24-hole disc golf course, mountain bike rentals and a 3.6 mile equestrian trail. The campground contains 174 individual campsites with water and electrical hookups. Each site also features a fire ring and a picnic table. Six group camping areas are available with a total of 92 sites.

Proud Lake Recreation Area

The Proud Lake Recreation Area is a 130-site campground along the Huron River. Facilities at the campground include electrical hookups, modern restrooms, two rustic rental cabins and a boat launch. Canoe and kayak rentals are available from the campground's office. Outside of the campground, visitors will find more than 8 miles of mountain biking trails and 6 miles of hiking or cross-country skiing trails. Proud Lake is approximately 23 miles west of Troy.
