Swain is a small community in southwestern New York state. Located off Route 70, it is ringed by small state forests, such as English Hill, Gas Springs and Ossian. During the summer, these sites offer hiking. During the winter, they offer snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and all year around they feature nature watching. While the town itself is lacking in RV campgrounds, the surrounding region is dotted with them, and any camper trying to take in more than one of the area's many outdoor opportunities will probably pass through Swain on the way.

Letchworth State Park

Located 10 miles north of Swain, Letchworth State Park is home to three major waterfalls of the Genesee River. The campground consists of more than 700 joint gravel campsites organized into eight separate loops near the Genesee River Gorge. Every site has electrical hookups (20 to 50 amps, depending on the campsite). Each loop has its own central comfort station with showers, and the campground as a whole is serviced by a central coin laundry, playground and camp store. There is also a dump station located elsewhere in the park. For on-site outdoor activities, the park offers biking, hiking and fishing. During the winter, the activities switch over to snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

The campground's features and facilities include an outdoor swimming pool with cafe, 3-acre pond, volleyball court, nature trails, game room, TV lounge, shower house, dump station and camp store. The park closes during the winter season.

Kankadea Park

Kankadea Park is operated by Stueben County, and is located 10 miles south of Swain. Its location right off I-85 makes it a convenient stop for even the largest of rigs, and it sits less than a mile from Canacadea State Forest. It offers 40 RV sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and electrical and water hookups overlooking Almond Lake. The campground is serviced by four picnic pavilions with barbecue grills, a bathhouse, a playground, and courts for basketball, volleyball and horseshoes. There is also a separate, tent-camping area. On-site outdoor activities include hiking trails and lake fishing. The campground is closed from early December to mid-April, and the water hookups are shut down after mid-October.
