Campgrounds near Cordova, Tennessee

Memphis is the largest city in Tennessee, so one would not expect its outer suburb of Cordova to be a good place to look for a campground and outdoor adventure. However, Cordova has good access to I-40, the Memphis beltway, and Route 385, so it is a logical, central location for exploring hiking, canoeing and fishing all around the Memphis area, such as Mississippi's Holly Springs National Forest, the marshes and tributaries of the Mississippi River, the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge, or Tennessee state parks. A camper trying to take in one or more of these places from the Memphis area will probably drive through Cordova to do it.

Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park

Reaching Meeman-Shelby State Park's campground entails a roughly 20-mile drive from Cordova. Situated on the shores of the Mississippi River, Meeman-Shelby's 13,467-acre enclosure is mostly a bottomland forest of cypress, oak and tupelo. The campground consists of 49 joint RV-and-tent sites, each with electrical and water hookups, picnic table and barbecue grill. It is serviced by a bathhouse. The campground operates on a first-come, first-serve basis, and there is a maximum stay of two weeks. Other accommodations are available in the form of rental cabins. For onsite outdoor activities, the park has a pair of lakes for fishing and boating, a five mile paved biking path and 20 miles of hiking trails.

T.O Fuller State Park

T.O. Fuller State Park is a much smaller enclosure than Meeman-Shelby, and is situated on the south side of Memphis a little more than 15 miles from Cordova. Despite being smaller, it still offers 45 joint RV-and-tent campsites. Each campsite is equipped with water and electrical hookups, a lantern post, a picnic table and a barbecue grill. The forested, shady campsites feature gravel pads for RVs, but they typically have an adjoining grassy area that can serve as a tent pitch. The campground is serviced by a central bathhouse, coin laundry, playground and picnic shelter. Like Meeman-Shelby, T.O. Fuller's campground operates on a first-come, first-serve basis, and has a two week maximum stay. The park's amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a baseball field, courts for tennis and basketball, an 18-hole golf course, and six miles of hiking trails.

Graceland RV Park and Campground

For campers who want to prioritize convenient access to the estate of Elvis Presley at Graceland, there is the Graceland RV Park and Campground. The campground is located near the interchange of the Memphis Beltway with I-55, so it still has good road access to outdoors sites to the south and southeast of Memphis. Although primarily an RV park, the campground has a separate area for tents on the north side of the property. Other accommodations are available in the form of motel rooms and rental cabins. The features and facilities there include a camp store, outdoor swimming pool, free Wi-Fi access throughout the campground, shower house, coin laundry, courts for horseshoes and basketball, and a pet-walk area.
