Amador County is situated in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Amador is a small town within the county, east of Sacramento. Travelers will find RV parks that play upon the area's rich history and terrain. Each RV park also sits within a short drive of unique natural areas.

Gold Country Campground Resort

Gold Country Campground Resort is 2 miles from Amador and offers 71 oversized spaces capable of holding several vehicles and big rigs up to 40 feet in length. Full hookups and views of the mountains are available. The camp store carries firewood and ice. The park provides a calendar filled with special activities, along with a pool, mini golf, arcade and game room. For outdoor recreation, Mt. Zion State Park is 3 miles from the resort. The park has mountain hiking trails with scenic overlooks.

Gold Strike Village

Gold Strike Village is 13 miles from Amador, on the site of the Hageman Gold Mine. Guests can camp among oak trees in mountain foothills. The village sites accommodate big rigs and offer shade, full and partial hookups. Cable and phone service can also be arranged. The park has a dump station and propane for sale on-site. Activities include outdoor games, a swim at the pool or exploring the property's hiking trails. The area offers pursuits from cave exploration to whitewater rafting, and 28 miles west, travelers will find Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The park, home to giant sequoias, has many hiking trails and areas for mountain biking and cross country skiing.

Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort

Far Horizons is 18 miles northwest of Amador, between wine country and gold country. The resort offers sites that can handle big rigs and towed vehicles. Guests can request a site on the waterfront or one with a yard area. The spots come with full hookups and cable service. A dump station is available, and propane is for sale. The park sells a discount card that carries opportunities for savings on your stays. The grounds feature an adult pool and spa and a family pool, two ponds and a library. Recreation equipment for outdoor games can be checked out for guest use. Indian Grinding Rocks State Park is a mile north of Amador and includes developed trails, wildlife viewing and a museum filled with Native American artifacts.
