Campgrounds near Frankfort, Michigan

Frankfort is a small town located along Lake Michigan. Water sports, swimming, fishing and boating are popular summer activities in Frankfort due to the nearby lake and the Betsie River, which flows through the area. Only one campground is located in Frankfort although camping is available at two locations within 30 miles of the city.

Betsie River Campsite

The Betsie River Campsite is a 97-site campground with four rental cabins. Water and electric are available at most sites although some have only water or electric. All of the sites can accommodate tents or RVs. Facilities include a bath house with flush toilets and hot showers, camp store, propane fill station, game room, playground and a sheltered picnic area. Betsie River is approximately 1/4-mile away from the campground and offers canoeists a moderate to fast current. Fishing is also permitted on Betsie River with typical catches including salmon, brown trout and steelhead.

Timberline Campground

Timberline Campground is nine miles outside of Frankfort and 3/4-mile away from the Betsie River. The campground has 207 campsites for tents and RVs ranging from primitive sites to those with full hookups. Amenities are restrooms and showers, propane fill station, camp store, playground, basketball court, horseshoe pits and an outdoor swimming pool. WiFi is available in limited areas throughout the campground.

Turtle Lake Campground

Turtle Lake Campground is 20 minutes east of Frankfort. The campground is located on 38 wooded acres and has 59 campsites for tents and RVs. Sites include lakefront and wooded sites with or without water and electric hookups. Two furnished rental cottages are also available. Amenities include restrooms, showers, dump station, playground and a sandy beach area on Turtle Lake. Rental equipment including kayaks, pedal boats, canoes, bicycles, tandem bikes and fishing boats are available from the campground's office.
