Alanson, Michigan, is a small community just 10 miles from Little Traverse Bay and 25 miles from the Mackinac Bridge. Campers will find a variety of campgrounds in the area that are conveniently close to several recreational opportunities, which include hiking in Petoskey State Park or fishing in the Crooked River and Burt Lake.

Crooked River RV Park

Crooked River RV Park is located just across Crooked River from downtown Alanson, Michigan. It offers 17 campsites that include water, electric and sewer hookups as well as paved pad and picnic table. Facility amenities include modern restroom with private showers, LP gas and dog-walking area. The campground is on Crooked River where there are several piers to fish from or to dock your boat. Several lakes are accessible from the river, including Burt Lake and Mullet Lake, with both having quality fishing for bluegill.

Petoskey State Park Dunes Campground

Petoskey State Park Dunes Campground is locates 10 miles west of Alanson and offers 70 camp sites. Sites include an electric hookup, fire ring and picnic table as well as wooded privacy buffers between sites. There are modern restrooms with private showers that are centrally located in the camp as well as a water filling and RV dump station. The campground is less then a quarter-mile walk from the Lake Michigan Beach, the park welcome center and the beach house. There are also several hiking trails available for guests that are accessible from the campground.

Petoskey State Park Tannery Creek Campground

Petoskey State Park Tanner Creek Campground is located 11 miles southwest of Alanson and offers 98 modern campsites. Sites include an electric hookup, fire ring and picnic table along with a modern restroom with private showers and water filling station. This campground is less then 100 yards from Lake Michigan, which is accessible by a boardwalk that leads through the dunes. Guests have access to a hiking trail that runs in the surrounding forest and the dunes. Tannery Creek is a mile south of the Dunes Campground and Petoskey State Parks Visitor center and main beach area.
