Hobe Sound is situated on Florida's southeastern Atlantic coast, roughly 100 miles north of Miami. Campers visiting the Hobe Sound area will find not just the beach and the Atlantic Ocean's water sports, but a number of other opportunities for outdoor adventures. Within 30 miles of Hobe Sound are Lake Okeechobe, three state preservation areas and a state park. The area's combined activities include hiking, canoeing, fishing, scuba diving and more, and the Hobe Sound area has a range of campground options to choose from.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park

Jonathan Dickinson State Park offers a range of campground options. It has two developed campgrounds in the form of the 45-site River Campground and the 90-site Pine Grove Campground. Both have joint RV-and-tent campsites with water and electrical hookups, picnic tables and barbecue grills, and are serviced by their own separate bathhouses. River Campground is located on the Loxahatchee River, roughly four miles into the park's interior, while Pine Grove is near the park's ranger station and east entrance. The park also has a pair of primitive, back-country campgrounds on the Florida Trail. These campgrounds have no facilities other than an untreated water pump. Campers must therefore treat water from the pump and exercise proper latrine procedures. Also, as collecting firewood from the forest is banned, camp stoves are necessary. Other accommodations are available in the form of rental cabins. Jonathan Dickinson's on-site outdoor activities include canoeing and kayaking (rentals available), freshwater and saltwater fishing, hiking, horseback riding, wildlife watching and swimming in the Loxahatchee River.

Phipps Park

This campground is a Marin County facility, so discounted rates are available to county residents. It has a convenient location less than a mile from the Florida Turnpike and I-95 interchange, roughly 10 miles northwest of Hobe Sound. The campground sits by the Okeechobee Waterway amid a 55-acre conservation area. It has 58 RV and tent campsites. As only 18 of these sites have hookups, Phipps Park is primarily a tent campground. The campground's amenities include a pair of bathhouses, a coin laundry, a playground, campfire rings and a pet area.

J. W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area

The J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a 60,348-acre state enclosure. The WMA's east entrance is about 15 miles from Hobe Sound, and there are several campsites alongside its main north-to-south road. Through most of the year, camping is only permitted on weekends, but during the annual archery and gun-hunting season it is open to camping every day (check with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission regarding specific dates). For on-site outdoor activities, the WMA has several miles of trails that are open to hiking, biking and horseback riding, as well as fishing in its ponds and nature watching.
