At the entrance of the KOA, you can also find a gas station and small convenience store. Looking for a tranquil and secluded camping experience? Then be sure to look into Masonboro Island, a large barrier island located 9 miles north from Wilmington Beach. Protected by the state of North Carolina, this island is home to pristine coastline as well as threatened wildlife such as loggerhead turtles. Every year, Masonboro attracts numerous visitors interested in camping, bird-watching, painting and surfing. If you are interested in camping at Masonboro Island, you should read the "Guide to Visiting Masonboro Island" that is provided by the North Carolina Coastal Reserve. Keep in mind: Visitors cannot camp on dunes and can only stay for 48 hours.
