Located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina, Wilmington Beach is known for its pleasant weather and its wide stretches of sandy beachfront. Visitors to Wilmington will not only enjoy sunbathing and swimming at the beach, but also they can golf at a nearby country club or catch a baseball game of the local minor-league team. If you enjoy camping, you should consider staying at one of Wilmington Beach's campgrounds to see coastal Carolina at its best.

Wilmington KOA

About 10 miles from Wilmington's downtown area, the Wilmington KOA is a year-round campground and RV park that's both family and pet-friendly. This campground features more than 100 campsites with on-site restrooms, and it also offers air-conditioned cabins and lodges for visitors who prefer indoor accommodations. In addition, the Wilmington KOA has amenities such as a pool, playground, soccer field and complimentary wireless Internet service. At the entrance of the KOA, you can also find a gas station and small convenience store. If you would like to stay at this campground, you should consider making a reservation, especially if you come during the summer.

Carolina Beach Family Campground

If you're traveling with your kids, you might want to stay at the Carolina Beach Family Campground--a campsite and RV park situated 4 miles north from Wilmington Beach. Along with its wooded camping sites, this campground also offers a swimming pool, hot showers, laundry facilities and a small store. Nearby attractions include the Jubilee Amusement Park, the Poplar Grove Plantation and the Cape Fear Museum. For current rates, make sure to call the campground directly. The Carolina Beach Family Campground is open year-round.

Masonboro Island

Looking for a tranquil and secluded camping experience? Then be sure to look into Masonboro Island, a large barrier island located 9 miles north from Wilmington Beach. Protected by the state of North Carolina, this island is home to pristine coastline as well as threatened wildlife such as loggerhead turtles. Every year, Masonboro attracts numerous visitors interested in camping, bird-watching, painting and surfing. If you are interested in camping at Masonboro Island, you should read the "Guide to Visiting Masonboro Island" that is provided by the North Carolina Coastal Reserve. Keep in mind: Visitors cannot camp on dunes and can only stay for 48 hours.
