Sabine Pass, south of Port Arthur, was heavily damaged in Hurricane Rita in 2005 and in the subsequent years was slow to recover from the devastation. Travelers can find nearby RV parks in towns just north of the area. The parks offer basic facilities, but more importantly, a central location from which to explore the bountiful natural sites of Sabine Pass.

Groves RV Park

Groves RV Park offers 46 paved sites and parking adjacent to each. Full hookups are provided with 30- and 50-amp electric service. The spaces can fit RVs up to 40 feet long and spots are available by the day, week or month. The park has a yard space for cookouts, but little in the way of on-site activities. The park is 17 miles north of Sabine Pass and very close to several wilderness sites, including Big Hill Bayou Wildlife Management Area, a unit of the J.D. Murphree WMA. The primary activity at the site is boating. Visitors can experience lake, bayou and marsh boating and potentially spot many varieties of water bird, endangered turtle and bear species. Big Hill Bayou Wildlife Management Area is 10 miles from the RV park.

In the Middle RV Park

In the Middle RV Park, 22 miles north of Sabine Pass, provides ample RV spots in a neighborhood setting. The sites include full hookups with 30- and 50-amp electric and guests may arrange long- term stays. The park has a stocked pond and a location convenient to a day trip to one of several natural areas. Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, 33 miles southwest of the RV park, offers several habitats that host a wide range of animal and bird species. Visitors can explore the waters by canoe or kayak to avoid startling wildlife upon approach or stick to the boardwalk and overlook areas for observation. Migrating birds stop in the area, alligators mate in the park, and the site plays host to and bobcats and otters on occasion.

Access RV Park

Access RV Park has 90 sites available with full hookups, including 30- and 50-amp electric and cable television. Each site has a concrete pad and covered patio, accessible from wide driveways. The park allows you to bring along your pet and provides both a laundry and shower facility for travelers. The park is only 19 miles north of Sabine Pass and the adjacent Texas Point National Wildlife Refuge. At the refuge, several boat ramps are available and boating is one of the major activities. Several of the lakes and waterways are open to boating, but travelers should check with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife site to see what types of boats are allowed in each area and during what time of the year, as there are several restrictions in place. Visitors may spot birds and wildlife along the trails.
