Outdoor activities in Chicago are abundant and varied. There is plenty of open space for walking, biking, boating, skating and bird-watching. Millennium Park, Lincoln Park, Jackson Park and Powderhorn Lake all offer great outdoor activities. Chicago offers 26 miles of lake front and 15 miles of bathing beaches. There are several campgrounds and RV parks in Chicago and the surrounding communities.

Jellystone Park - Chicago

Jellystone Park's RV sites feature full hookups, fire pit, grassy area and picnic table. Amenities offered at this park include three pools, a hot tub, basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, ceramics classes, pizza delivery and a mini-golf course. There is a general store on site that sells ice, firewood and LP gas. Hay wagon rides are offered as well as a clubhouse with surround-sound movies. Cabins and tent sites are available. This campground is a good option for people traveling with children.

Chicago Northwest KOA

Chicago Northwest KOA offers 50-amp service and pull-through sites for vehicles shorter than 78 feet. Amenities include Internet, swimming pool, mini-golf, bicycle rentals and firewood. Located nearby is the Railroad Museum, Wold West Town, Six Flags and Magic Waters. This campground is also near the Fox River Valley where you can bike or hike along the 36 miles of trails or enjoy many shops, restaurants and museums.

Lena KOA

The Lena KOA offers 50-amp hookups and pull-through sites for vehicles shorter than 700-feet long. Amenities include heated pool with a double tube slide, sand volleyball, horseshoes and basketball. Bikes and pedal cars are available for rent. This camp offers many planned activities such as bingo, pancake breakfasts, hayrides and live music. Kamping kitchens and Kamping Kabins are available for large groups. Hiking, biking, fishing, championship golf courses, antique shops are located in the nearby city of Galena.

Jellystone Park - Portage

Portage, Indiana, is approximately 30 miles east of Chicago. This Jellystone park features full hookups at each site and a fire pit. Pull-through sites, restrooms, laundry facilities, propane station and Internet access are also available. A 22-acre lake is located on site as well as boat rental and a bait shop. Other amenities include bike and golf cart rental, three pools, gift shop and a playground. Cabin rentals and tent sites are available. This campground is a good option for people traveling with children.
