Goldsmith, Texas, is a small community on the northwest side of Odessa that is known for its oil fields and petroleum extraction. Road cyclists and triathletes can take advantage of the many rural routes and backcountry roads for training and bike touring. The Pecos River is within an hour's drive, offering fishing, canoeing and kayaking. RV travelers can find several campgrounds and RV parks in the greater Goldsmith area.

Midessa Oil Patch RV Park can accommodate small RVs and there are pull-through sites for bigger rigs. All sites have water, sewer, cable TV and 30- or 50-amp electric hookups. Guests have access to showers, bathrooms, a laundry room, a clubhouse, a swimming pool, picnic tables, barbecue stations and outdoor game courts. Pets are allowed. The Museum of the Southwest is in neighboring Midland. Visitors to the museum can learn of the native heritage and history of the region.

Baron Mobile Estates and RV Park

Baron Mobile Estates and RV Park has sites shaded by pecan and oak trees, so guests can escape the hot, west Texas sun. Sites can accommodate both small and large RVs. There are water, sewer, and 30- or 50-amp electric connections at each site. Picnic tables and barbecue grills are on the premises, and pets are allowed if leashed. Bathrooms, showers and a laundry room are available. Hikers can drive to the Monahans Sandhills, within a 45-minute drive, and hike the two-mile loop trail.

Midland RV Campground

The Midland RV Campground offers free Wi-Fi and cable TV connections with each site. Sites can handle most RVs. Water, sewer and 30- or 50-amp electric are standard connections. Pets are allowed, and bathrooms, showers and picnicking facilities are available. The Guadalupe Mountains National Park is two and a half hour away by car, and Balmorhea State Park is two hours away. Visitors can hike, rock climb, backpack and bird watch at the parks.
