Carpenter is a town in Mitchell County, Iowa with a total town area of only 0.02 square miles. The community hosts a summer baseball league on its two baseball fields and regularly throws community dances. Though it is not known for offering much in the way of outdoor activities, Carpenter's expansive and plentiful farmlands are perfect for camping and enjoying its Midwestern landscape.

Since Carpenter is such a small town with a population of only 130, there are no hotels within the town's limits. So, if you are planning a visit to Carpenter, there are many lodging options in nearby towns from which to choose.

The Blue Bell Inn


The Blue Bell Inn is located six miles south of Carpenter in St. Ansgar, Iowa. This inn is located near many great activities. Just a few miles from the inn is the Nature Preserve on Highway 218 North. This nature preserve is great for bird-watching and nature walks. Also a few miles from the inn is Halvorson Park on the Cedar River, which is perfect for camping, boating, swimming, fishing and canoeing. Canoe rentals are available from a local purveyor. However, if you are interested in staying close to the inn, you can bike or walk around the countryside that surrounds it.

The inn is situated within an original Victorian house, and each room in the inn is decorated with a literary theme. One of the rooms, for example, is called "Never Never Land" and is styled similarly to Wendy, John and Michael's bedroom in the novel "Peter Pan." There are 10 rooms in total and all of the inn's rooms have queen-sized or full-sized beds as well as a private bathroom. Room rates vary depending on room type or theme. The inn also offers free parking and has a restaurant on-site.

Super 8 Osage

The Super 8 Osage in Osage, Iowa is located 18 miles southeast of Carpenter. The Super 8 Osage is located a few minutes from the Mitchell County fairgrounds, which hosts the Mitchell County Fair every year during the last week of July. The hotel also is located near the Spring Park Picnic & Wildlife Area, the Mitchell Dam, the Interstate Park and the Cedar River Greenbelt Trail. All of these local attractions are great for enjoying outdoor activities such as nature walking and hiking, camping and wildlife watching.

All of the hotel's rooms offer free wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi), an air conditioner and cable television with HBO. The hotel also offers free coffee in the lobby, free parking for cars, trucks and RVs, and a free Superstart breakfast every morning. Pets are allowed to stay in the hotel for a fee.

Holiday Inn Austin

The next closest hotel to Carpenter is located 24 miles north in Austin, Minnesota. The Holiday Inn Austin is located a few minutes from the famous Spam Museum and the Hormel Nature Center, which has miles of nature trails and wooded landscapes and is perfect for taking nature walks.

Each of the hotel rooms has cable television, a telephone, a coffee maker, an iron and ironing board. Every room also has a dining table, sofa bed and a personal computer with Internet access. Non-smoking rooms are available as well as access to a fitness center for a fee. There is a restaurant on the premises and children under the age of 12 can eat there for free.
