Restaurants on the Bay in San Francisco
Stunning San Francisco, built on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water, is an amazing city to explore. Ride a cable car or walk up and down the hilly streets and gaze at the pastel colored Victorian architecture that San Francisco is famous for, take a cruise and wander on the grounds of the infamous Alcatraz island, hike the hills in Golden Gate Park overlooking the Golden Gate bridge, or run along the waterfront in the Embarcadero area. After a long day of sightseeing and outdoor activities, dine at a restaurant overlooking the picture perfect San Francisco Bay.

Alioto's

Founded in 1925, Alioto's is one of the oldest restaurants in San Francisco. Since then, little has changed. Alioto's still purchases fresh local seafood daily by its dedicated staff of fish buyers. The menu revolves around fresh seafood with an Italian twist. House specialties handed down through the generations include cioppino, a spicy tomato shellfish stew, shellfish risotto, homemade clam chowder, and lightly battered fresh calamari. Located at Fisherman's Wharf directly facing San Francisco harbor, the Harbor View dining room offers panoramic views over the calm waters of San Francisco Bay.

Green's Restaurant

In the Marina District, Greens Restaurant focuses on vegetarian fare in a serene setting with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. Helping to bring vegetarian cuisine to the mainstream starting in the '60s, the restaurant's organic produce is mainly grown at its Green Gulch Farm located across the Bay in Marin County, and is cultivated by Zen students. Menu selections include maitake, crimini and portobello mushroom lasagna, tagine, and marscapone leek risotto cake. Originally part of the San Francisco Zen Center, the owners converted a warehouse in the historic Fort Mason using Zen Center carpenters to incorporate 12 types of reclaimed wood, including black walnut doors, hickory stairs, a cedar bar, and tables of walnut, cherry and maple.
